General information

Usually, mexicans speak with a lot of respect, they use very often Thank you (gracias), Please (Por favor) or Excuse me (Con permiso).

Tips: Leave between 10 and 15% at restaurants. For bell boys calculate 2 dollars. Don't leave tips for taxis, except if extra service.

Only drink bottled water and avoid eating at roadside food stands.

For long distance calls, use discount cards. For local calls you can purchase a Ladatel phonecard for use in public phones.

In restaurants, remember to ask for the bill: it is not customary to bring it automatically.

Do not carry a lot of money with you or wear anything too flashy.

If you are travelling by car, distances are in kilometers. The limit on the service roads is 80 km/hr and 110 km/hour on highways. Watch out for speed bumps as they are very common at the entrance of most towns & neighborhoods.

Gas stations may be far appart, so we recommend you to fill your tank when you reach the half way mark, and avoid travelling by night.

Credit cards are not accepted everywhere. Enquire before purchase. Banks open hours: 8.30 am to 4 pm, weekdays.

Weather:  Most of the year, Mexico City is cool, but winter can be cold. The rainy season is from June to September.
